CARIBBEAN HOST COUNTRY

THE GAME PLAY

Under the bright fine sand and summer heat, Caribbean as host country gives us an extra hot scoop of controversy, theories and assumptions. Other than that, some historical moments of Miss Universe were written in the groups of Islands. What are they?

THE BACK TO BACK

In 1999, A black to black happened in Port of Spain courtesy of Mpule, Miss Botswana crowned by Wendy of Trinidad & Tobago. Mpule's victory caused the division of crowd; some find it fair enough and some noted it as controversial since Miriam of Philippines was the heavy favorite to win the crown.

In 2009, Venezuela proved to the rest of the world that they got the whole Universe in their hands when they left a historical moment of the only back to back in the said pageant. People were rooting for Rachel of Australia and Ada of Dominican Republic (1st runner up) but to everyone's surprise, Stefania Ferndandez was crown by Dayana Mendoza. Many of us enthusiasts didn't see it coming.

THE CROWN STAYS HOME

Denise of Puerto Rico assured that the crown will be staying home when she won the Miss Universe 2001 pageant in her home soil. Many followers and fans were surprised since Evelina of Greece and Agbani of Nigeria were the heavy favorites to win. Some made conclusions of the home court advantage. But to some people, it was a well deserved victory for the lovely Boricuana.
